'God Help the Girl' poster design WIP part 4.

Here are my final poster designs for musical indie film God Help the Girl starring Emily Browning, Hannah Murray and Olly Alexander and directed by Stuart Murdoch. Unfortunately the window of opportunity was too small to get permission from the films distributors to use the posters for any theatrical cinema release but I have gained a certain amount of industry experience and good references from Metrodome Distribution. I am currently trying very hard to get the posters onto social media and the official website, it’s been a struggle so far but i'm not giving up. The feedback I have got from friends and the guys from Metrodome has been great. Quad poster. one-sheet poster.

God Help the Girl director Stuart Murdoch is the lead singer/songwriter of indie band Belle & Sebastian. In keeping with the bands bold two-tone album cover art I went for a minimal but more exciting full colour painting approach which should appease their fans with a single background colour to accompany each of the actor illustrations. The idea was if the illustration has a high saturation value then the background colour would be low saturation and vice versa. I later came across the Albers approach to colour studies which lead to finding the largest area of a hue from the actor illustration and producing a different colour within the same family for the background. I also attempted to combine these ideas with complimentary colours for each illustration and split complimentary colours to cohesively bring them all together. For the painting process I decided to stick to a digital workflow using Photoshop and Illustrator CS3 with my trusty Wacom graphire 4 tablet. My creative direction was simple incorporating an opaque flat colour approach with little or no airbrushing. I sampled colour swatches from 4 different palettes with a high saturation value and bright hues. I wanted to repeat the use of a single colour and draw the viewer’s eye towards her face, as seen on the lips and head scarf for Eve played by Emily Browning. The colour work was applied using a slightly modified hard edged brush to preserve a clean finish behind the line-art. For the character line-art check out 'God Help the Girl' WIP part 1  http://yuyanda.blogspot.co.uk/2014/08/god-help-girl-wip-work-in-progress.html For the leopard print dress on Cass played by Hannah Murray, I decided to isolate the dark areas of the pattern and trace it using Illustrator CS3 before adding any colour or brushwork in Photoshop CS3. Im currently working on a film poster design for a musical indie flick called God Help The Girl from Metrodome distribution due for release in 2014. The film stars Emily Browning (Suckerpunch) Hannah Murray (Game of Thrones) and Olly Alexander (lead singer of the British band Years and Years) and director Stuart Murdoch's debut film. The lineart features the main three characters from the film which I hope you will like. 1st place in the State of the Art Cinema 'design a movie poster' competition.

Post by Kazembe Alvaro Zakious Hamadi . I won the State of the Art Cinema 'design a movie poster' competition. I am overjoyed and excited to be offered a design role for an upcoming film release from Metrodome Distribution. It's an opportunity I have been working towards for over 4 years and a chance for me to further my career into the film industry. Here is the link to the project: www.yuyanda.cgsociety.org/portfolio/Frances-Ha-poster-art The award was for a quad poster design created for new wave indie comedy Frances Ha starring Greta Gerwig and directed by Noah Baumbach. It's not the first film poster based competition I have won but possibly the most significant one so far. In 2009 I won Best Poster in the Odeon Short Film Competition.
