Moon Rats Midnight Crisis for London Bus-Tops

It's been a while since my last post. I have recently created animation and artwork for London Bus-Tops, a collaborative public art installation across 20 London boroughs. There are 30 red and black LED screens dotted around London, on the roofs of bus shelters. creating a new exhibition space for the public and Public Arts to the build up to the London Olympic Games.

Synopsis behind the vision:
Cheese is used to bait rats. Is the moon made of cheese? No, that’s just a silly fable but giant space rats do rule over the lunar surface. The only dominant life form from the dark side of the barren rock. As the Tetris Space Shuttle blasts into orbit through the moody midnight sky, shooting stars signals the beginning of the Moon Rats decent to planet Earth below, a never ending alien invasion. One small step for man, one giant leap for space rats!

The workflow included Flash 8, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator CS3 and Adobe After Effects 7.0. Unfortunately the L.E.D screens are limited to 256 x 80 pixel animations displayed in L.E.D red but the result is pretty cool! Watch the animation as it will appear on the Bus-Tops - http://bus-tops.com/work/4407/

This mock up image of the animation illustrated in red and black L.E.D gives you an idea of how it will appear. I made a HD presentation which shows the mock up in full motion - https://vimeo.com/44768148

Two frame pixel animation based on Tetris on the Nintendo Gameboy. The type B game shows a space shuttle taking off when you beat the game at level 9 and height 5. Always wanted an excuse to use it! (It appears in the deep space background.)

Autographed art & meeting Bruce Lee's widow Linda Lee Cadwell.

So a couple of years ago I met Bruce Lee's widow Linda Lee Cadwell. This was a huge deal for me as Bruce Lee has been my idol since forever! So, naturally I brought along a piece of Bruce Lee inspired work for her to admire and sign. The poster is part of a graduate installation piece. Click the title above for a video link . Linda Lee Cadwell and her daughter Shannon Lee sign my poster! Click on the image for a deviantART link.  Me on the right, my brother Titus on the left and Linda Lee Cadwell. 'God Help the Girl' poster design WIP part 1.

Im currently working on a film poster design for a musical indie flick called God Help The Girl from Metrodome distribution due for release in 2014. The film stars Emily Browning (Suckerpunch) Hannah Murray (Game of Thrones) and Olly Alexander (lead singer of the British band Years and Years) and director Stuart Murdoch's debut film. The lineart features the main three characters from the film which I hope you will like. For more info about God Help The Girl visit the website  http://www.godhelpthegirl.com/ Olly Alexander as James. Hannah Murray as Cass. Emily Browning as Eve.

‘God Help the Girl’ poster design WIP part 2.

For the painting process I decided to stick to a digital workflow using Photoshop and Illustrator CS3 with my trusty Wacom graphire 4 tablet. My creative direction was simple incorporating an opaque flat colour approach with little or no airbrushing. I sampled colour swatches from 4 different palettes with a high saturation value and bright hues. I wanted to repeat the use of a single colour and draw the viewer’s eye towards her face, as seen on the lips and head scarf for Eve played by Emily Browning. The colour work was applied using a slightly modified hard edged brush to preserve a clean finish behind the line-art. For the character line-art check out 'God Help the Girl' WIP part 1  http://yuyanda.blogspot.co.uk/2014/08/god-help-girl-wip-work-in-progress.html For the leopard print dress on Cass played by Hannah Murray, I decided to isolate the dark areas of the pattern and trace it using Illustrator CS3 before adding any colour or brushwork in Photoshop CS3.
