Moon Rats Midnight Crisis for London Bus-Tops

It's been a while since my last post. I have recently created animation and artwork for London Bus-Tops, a collaborative public art installation across 20 London boroughs. There are 30 red and black LED screens dotted around London, on the roofs of bus shelters. creating a new exhibition space for the public and Public Arts to the build up to the London Olympic Games.

Synopsis behind the vision:
Cheese is used to bait rats. Is the moon made of cheese? No, that’s just a silly fable but giant space rats do rule over the lunar surface. The only dominant life form from the dark side of the barren rock. As the Tetris Space Shuttle blasts into orbit through the moody midnight sky, shooting stars signals the beginning of the Moon Rats decent to planet Earth below, a never ending alien invasion. One small step for man, one giant leap for space rats!

The workflow included Flash 8, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator CS3 and Adobe After Effects 7.0. Unfortunately the L.E.D screens are limited to 256 x 80 pixel animations displayed in L.E.D red but the result is pretty cool! Watch the animation as it will appear on the Bus-Tops - http://bus-tops.com/work/4407/

This mock up image of the animation illustrated in red and black L.E.D gives you an idea of how it will appear. I made a HD presentation which shows the mock up in full motion - https://vimeo.com/44768148

Two frame pixel animation based on Tetris on the Nintendo Gameboy. The type B game shows a space shuttle taking off when you beat the game at level 9 and height 5. Always wanted an excuse to use it! (It appears in the deep space background.)

"Virtuoso" publication

I recently submitted my short film poster 'Dummy' into a book publication called The Virtuoso Project. The editor of the book DragonBrusher has accepted the artwork and it will feature in the book when it is published! This is a very exciting prospect as I have never been published before! The book will feature art from new and upcoming artists from around the world and will be avaliable to buy online. More info can be found here http://www.dragonbrusher.com/

ChitChatClick's Sharnie character design.

I was recently commissioned to create promotional poster material for a student film from Bournemouth University (UK) called ChitChatClick. The character design shows how the actors real likeness is captured through modern 3D animated 'cartoon' features. I also looked at Jason Brooks 'Fashionista' drawings for style and exaggeration. I gave her a contemporary high street sense of fashion referencing brands from H&M to NEXT to Debenhams which best reflected Sharnie's personality. Mobile phones play an integral role in the screenplay so a level of interaction with the accessory was critical, referencing Apple's IPhone for an authentic look. The story revolves around four modern women who communicate via mobile but when they finally meet face to face, all is not as it seems and things turn for the worse! Its short but sweet. Pencil media on 140gsm paper with subtle brush work. Mechanical Pencils. A4 light box. Rulers. Erasers.
