Synopsis: Cheese is used to bait rats. Is the moon made of cheese? No, that's just a silly fable but giant space rats do rule over the lunar surface. The only dominant life form from the dark side of the barren rock. As the Tetris Space Shuttle blasts into orbit through the moody midnight sky, shooting stars signals the beginning of the Moon Rats descent to planet Earth below, a never ending alien invasion. Inspired by SoulCalibur HD from Kazembe Hamadi on Vimeo . This fully animated motion graphic is a short introduction to a promotional video which showcases my artwork and the making of it through screen capture software, inspired by fighting game SoulCalibur on the Sega Dreamcast. The finished video will feature my own portraiture artwork and a step by step creative process. The sequence was created using Adobe Photoshop CS3 and After Effects 7.0. I remember a university lecture debating whether digital art is real art and the whole contemporary format being an acceptable one, according to the lecturer "digital art isn't art if it doesn't exists in the real world, the physical world". I’m mostly a digital artist these days but I have to say coming from an art school background I had to agree. From my own experience and exposure within the traditional art and gallery exhibition scene I can say there definitely is a biased when it comes to accepting digital forms of art on the same plateau as traditional methods such as an oil painting next to a digital one, ignorance is part of the problem. I personally believe if you put your heart and soul into honestly expressing yourself bringing to life something original from scratch then it should be appreciated as a legitimate form. Following on from the finished character designs (see previous posts) I decided to composite a quick character design process which shows how I work. 3 stages which include the initial stick figure or skeleton with perspective, fleshing out the body and finally layering all the clothing, accessories and finer details. I was recently commissioned to create promotional poster material for a student film from Bournemouth University (UK) called ChitChatClick. The character design shows how the actors real likeness is captured through modern 3D animated 'cartoon' features. I also looked at Jason Brooks 'Fashionista' drawings for style and exaggeration. I gave her a contemporary high street sense of fashion referencing brands from H&M to NEXT to Debenhams which best reflected Sharnie's personality. Mobile phones play an integral role in the screenplay so a level of interaction with the accessory was critical, referencing Apple's IPhone for an authentic look. The story revolves around four modern women who communicate via mobile but when they finally meet face to face, all is not as it seems and things turn for the worse! Its short but sweet.
